Moving on Up
If you had asked me prior to the last growing season what I anticipated being the most exciting and challenging thing I thought I would face during the upcoming season, I would have answered something along the lines of successfully growing Lisianthus from seed to bloom, or keeping the voles out of my perennial beds, or even where I was going to plant the new dahlias that I just couldn’t stop ordering. In reality, all of those things turned out to be very trivial compared to the actual events of the season because we moved.
About those Snapdragons
Remember those snapdragons that I mentioned before? You know, the 800 or so that I planted? Yes, those.
So It’s Been Awhile….
When I first started this blog, I had envisioned that at the absolute worst case, I’d post an update monthly. Never did I imagine that I would have a huge 10-month gap in between posts! I now realize that a monthly farm update is quite ambitious, so not only do I apologize for the long break, but also for the inevitable future delays.
So, what have I been up to? Quite a bit actually.
What’s Blooming?
Now that Spring has arrived, things are really starting to bloom on the farm! Here’s a look at a few things that are in bloom right now.
Oh, Snap!
This year I decided to level up on the volume of flowers that I’m growing. This led to a wholesale account and I am now buying my flower seeds in bulk. My first seed purchase of the season was Chantilly Lace Snapdragons.
Winter Wonderland
It’s not often we get a large amount of snow. I’d say that since we moved here six years ago, we get maybe one proper snow a year. And by proper, I mean that it sticks for one day. But over the Christmas holiday, we got a LOT OF snow. We think it was at least a foot in some places.
‘Tis the Season!
I left the blooms in my “press” for a few weeks, and now I can make custom pressed flower ornaments for my friends and family. Look at me being proactive and checking those holiday gifts off of my list!
Black Velvet if you please
While browsing the fabric aisles at my local craft/sewing store, I came across several beautiful bolts of velvet fabric.
Velvet. Soft, smooth velvet.
We grew some pumpkins
It’s Pumpkin Jack!
Shimmer & Shine
I did it! I finally did it!!!
Nevertheless, she persisted….
6 years. For 6 years I tried to kill this grapevine
Dreamy Hydrangeas
Hydrangeas are quite simply dreamy.
Lovely Lavender
We live on a small parcel of land that is surrounded by a very large one.
